🚨 Safety Updates
Two NSW coal mine dozer incidents raised concerns about unsafe reversing, exclusion‑zone breaches and poor decision‑making. One dozer struck a dragline after entering the zone without communication; another became bogged when the operator attempted self‑recovery. Regulators urged mines to review ROVOA guidance, focusing on operating procedures and operator authority.
✒ Headlines & Industry
Australia could unlock about $300 billion by advancing 70 clean‑industry projects, a briefing from Mission Possible Partnership and the Industrial Transition Accelerator says. With strong mineral and renewable advantages, Australia can lead if demand is created through mandates, procurement and investment support. Most projects face barriers needing decisive government action.
🏗️ Projects
ACT
The ACT has released Stage 1 plans for the Tradesmen’s Union Club redevelopment in Dickson, proposing two new buildings with 246 apartments, commercial spaces and parking. Existing facilities, including squash courts, would be demolished. The broader masterplan includes 645 homes, with community concerns focused on the loss of the long‑running squash club.
QLD
Expressions of interest have opened to duplicate Brisbane’s Linkfield Road Overpass to four lanes with increased height clearance, reducing congestion and bridge strikes. Combined with Beams Road–Gympie Road upgrades, the $176 million project moves toward construction with federal and state backing, improving safety, traffic flow and freight efficiency in Brisbane’s north.
A mixed‑use Caloundra proposal seeks three towers up to 40 m with 74 apartments, 81 hotel units, retail and dining atop a shared podium. Designed by Architectus, the staged project includes pools, wellness spaces and 209 parking spaces, aiming to activate Bulcock Street as a key gateway within the major centre zone.
Amazon will build a 150,000sqm robotics‑enabled fulfilment centre at Charter Hall’s Flagstone Logistics Estate in North Maclean, Queensland. The multi‑level facility will be Brisbane’s first ARS site and anchor tenant growth alongside Bunnings and DATS. The lease strengthens Amazon’s partnership with Charter Hall and boosts the estate’s industrial profile.
TAS
The AER has extended TasNetworks’ deadline to publish the Project Assessment Draft Report for the Waddamana–Palmerston transmission upgrade to 31 October 2026. The delay allows alignment with AEMO’s 2026 Integrated System Plan. TasNetworks says the extension won’t raise costs or delay delivery, with consultation to follow once the draft is released.
VIC
ASX-listed Cedar Woods Properties will officially launch land sales at Somerley, a new masterplanned community in Corio comprising around 400 residential lots, with the first release becoming available to the public in March.

An Adelaide forum will discuss the CFMEU’s future and defending militant unionism. Speakers Sue Bull and Tim Gooden will explore how unions can resist attacks, strengthen democratic organising, and pressure Labor over war and Gaza. Hosted by Socialist Alliance, the free event includes in‑person and Zoom participation.
A new offshore wind installation system for Australia uses a heavy‑lift jack‑up vessel supported by feeder vessels to overcome port and vessel shortages. Developed by ONP Management and partners, it boosts efficiency by up to 50% and reduces reliance on deepwater ports, helping future projects avoid expected vessel scarcity from 2030.
JCB deputy chairman George Bamford visited Australia recently to announce the appointment of a new dealer and a major new investment in customer service support. Bamford attended a signing ceremony celebrating the appointment of Adaptalift Group as an authorised JCB dealer across Australia’s major metropolitan territories, including Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide.
🚀 Innovation, Digital & Futuristic Technology
ICON has launched Titan, a large 3D concrete printer capable of constructing two‑storey buildings using its low‑carbon CarbonX material. Shippable in a standard container, Titan features an extended‑reach robotic arm and integrated software. ICON is taking deposits now, with training in 2026 and first deliveries expected in early 2027.
AI‑driven Komatsu Smart Construction tech enabled MMB to deliver a 44,000m² constructed wetland in Yorkshire efficiently, modelling soil movement across 13 cells and guiding GPS‑enabled iMC machinery. The approach cut weeks from the schedule, saved over £300,000 and reduced carbon by eliminating rework, over‑excavation and unnecessary haulage.
🌱 Sustainability & Environment
Population growth and climate pressures are driving interest in water reuse, offering supply security and drought resilience. But diverting treated wastewater can reduce environmental flows that support ecosystems. Boards must balance circularity with ecological impacts through basin‑scale modelling, adaptive discharge planning and transparent governance to ensure reuse strengthens both community and environmental resilience.
This study highlights how rubber powder and nano-silica improve concrete's freeze-thaw resistance, enhancing durability and sustainability in construction.
