TAS

TasWater warns Hobart’s housing growth could be delayed without continued investment in water and sewerage infrastructure. CEO George Theo says upgrades are needed for water security, network capacity, and sewage treatment, proposing annual bill increases to fund critical works while giving customers more control over usage-based charges.

VIC

Not-for-profit organisation Nightingale Housing has been selected to develop a former rail spur in Alphington, in Melbourne’s east, with 70 new townhouses designed by Breathe. The project is one of 14 land parcels earmarked for development under the Victorian government’s Small Sites program.

According to IMARC Group, Australia’s ready mix concrete market is projected to grow from USD 53.5 billion in 2025 to USD 121.3 billion by 2034 at 9.24% CAGR. Growth is driven by infrastructure investment, urban development, sustainable green concrete adoption and automation in production technologies.

LGA South Australia is urging the Federal Government to increase and index road funding, citing rising construction costs and the state’s low per-capita support. Councils maintain 76% of SA’s roads, including critical freight and regional networks, and seek long-term, predictable funding to ensure safety, maintenance, and infrastructure sustainability.

Australasian Railway Association has welcomed Australia’s high speed rail entering detailed planning. CEO Caroline Wilkie said the project promises economic growth, jobs, urban renewal, and sustainable transport. Development funding over two years will guide efficient delivery and integration with housing and regional development.

🚀 Innovation, Digital & Futuristic Technology

Track3D now integrates with Fieldwire, linking visual documentation and progress tracking directly to field management. Construction teams can sync floor plans, punch lists, and issue tracking in one platform, providing real-time context, reducing duplicate uploads, improving coordination, and enabling faster, more accurate decisions based on what’s actually built onsite.

The University of Bath has launched an AI tool that predicts a building’s embodied carbon from simple text descriptions during early design. Using machine learning and natural language processing, it estimates emissions from materials, dimensions, and usage, giving architects instant feedback to refine designs for sustainability before specifications are final, with real-world testing showing positive industry response.

UK manufacturer Lignacite, in partnership with Carbon8, has developed the Carbon Buster block—a concrete masonry unit made from over 50% recycled aggregates and industrial by-products that uses accelerated carbonation to mineralize CO₂, capturing more carbon than is emitted during production. The blocks offer carbon-negative masonry while meeting conventional construction standards, supporting circular economy goals and easier adoption in building projects.

Construction drones are now mainstream, offering faster, safer, and more cost-effective site surveys, progress monitoring, safety inspections, stockpile measurement, quality control, and infrastructure assessments. High-resolution imagery, LiDAR, and AI-driven mapping improve data accuracy, collaboration, and project planning. Top drones for construction include the Skydio X10, Freefly Astro Max, Parrot ANAFI USA, DJI Mavic 3E, and DJI Matrice 350 RTK. Benefits include increased efficiency, cost savings, improved safety, and environmental compliance, while the global market is projected to reach $19B by 2032, creating opportunities for drone pilots and transforming construction workflows.
